Q: What’s your role at AlterMe, and what expertise do you bring to the team?
I lead the genetics strategy at AlterMe, where my focus is turning complex science into meaningful, personalized health insights.
My academic background includes an MSc in Biochemistry from Oxford University and an MSc in Clinical and Public Health Nutrition from University College London. My career has spanned investment banking, corporate strategy, and product development across biopharma and health-tech sectors globally—including in the UK, US, and Asia.
I also serve on innovation boards within the NHS and private healthcare systems in the UK and Hong Kong, helping shape the future of precision health from both a clinical and commercial lens.
This breadth of experience informs how we build at AlterMe—our products are not only grounded in science but also deeply human-centric and globally relevant.
Q: What inspired the creation of the AlterMe DNA test—and how is it different from others?
It started with a simple truth: no two people are the same. So why should their wellness plans be?
Most programs are designed as one-size-fits-all, missing the unique genetic blueprint that influences everything from metabolism to sleep. AlterMe was built to change that.
Our test analyzes key genetic markers and turns them into a hyper-personalized plan tailored to how your body actually works. What sets us apart is how we go beyond the science—we make it actionable. You don’t just learn about your genes, you learn what to do with that information.
We bridge the gap between genetic data and real-world health transformation.
Q: Can you walk us through how the DNA test was developed?
We took a research-first approach. Our goal was to go beyond just decoding your DNA—we wanted to give people actionable insights across fitness, nutrition, sleep, and stress.
We curated a proprietary panel of genetic markers based on the strongest peer-reviewed evidence. These markers are directly linked to how people perform, recover, and respond to daily behaviors.
We didn’t use a plug-and-play panel. We built our own—and designed custom algorithms to ensure accuracy and relevance. It’s what makes our guidance both personal and practical.
Q: How does AlterMe make genetic insights usable?
Many DNA tests are either too vague or too complex. At AlterMe, our reports are built for real-life application.
We translate your data into clear, science-backed steps tailored to your goals—whether that’s improving your sleep, optimizing workouts, or refining your nutrition. Each insight includes context, explanation, and action.
Even better, your plan evolves over time. As your lifestyle or goals change, the guidance adapts with you.
Your DNA is a powerful tool—and we help you use it.
Q: How do you balance genetic predispositions with lifestyle factors?
Your genes are your blueprint—but not your destiny. They tell us how your body is likely to respond to things like food, exercise, and stress. But your choices determine how those genes show up in real life.
That’s the concept of epigenetics: daily actions can influence how genes are expressed.
At AlterMe, we use your DNA as the foundation. From there, we help you make smarter decisions that align with your biology—so you can take control of your health instead of feeling limited by it.
Q: Can two people with the same goals get completely different recommendations?
Absolutely.
Two people might both want to lose weight or improve endurance, but their bodies may respond better to different strategies. One might benefit from strength training, while another thrives on zone 2 cardio. One might process fats better, the other carbs.
Even recovery and sleep needs vary by genetic makeup.
That’s why we don’t just ask what your goals are—we look at how your body is built to reach them.
Q: How often is the science behind the test reviewed or updated?
Continuously.
We stay current with the latest research in genetics, nutrigenomics, epigenetics, and human performance. Every marker we use is backed by high-quality, reproducible science.
Our team regularly evaluates new studies and updates our algorithms to reflect the most current evidence—so your insights stay relevant and effective.
Q: What are you most proud of when it comes to the AlterMe test?
We didn’t just repackage existing science. We built something original—from the ground up.
We created our own panel of markers and designed proprietary algorithms to make the results useful in everyday life. We transformed complex science into something people can actually use to feel better, move better, and live better.
That’s what I’m most proud of.
